South Korea wins gold in men’s 80kg plus taekwondo

South Korea continue their domination in the taekwondo with Dongmin Cha winning the gold in men’s 80kg plus division.
Alexandros Nikolaidis from Greece won the silver medal and bronze medals went to Chika Yagazie Chukwumerije from Nigeria and Arman Chilmanov from Kazakhstan.


Francoise Mbango Etone wins gold in women’s triple jump – OR

Francoise Mbango Etone from Cameroon has won the gold medal in the women’s triple jump setting a new Olympic record – 15.39.

Tatyana Lebedeva from Russia won the silver medal and Hrysopiyi Devetzi from Greece won the bronze medal.


Great Britain wins the gold in men’s lightweight double scull

Great Britain’s Zac Purchase and Mark Hunter have won the gold medal in the men’s lightweight double scull.
Greece’s team of MOUGIOS Dimitrios Mougios and Vasileios Polymeros won the silver.
Mads Reinholdt Rasmussen and Rasmus Nicholai Quist Hansen from Denmark won the bronze medal.


Great Britain wins women’s yngling – sailing

Great Britain’s Sarah Ayton, Sarah Webb and Pippa Wilson have won the first gold medal in the sailing at the Beijing Olympics.
Netherlands team of MULDER Mandy Mulder, Annemieke Bes and Merel Witteveen have won silver.
Greece’s Sofia Bekatorou, Sofia Papadopoulou and Virginia Kravarioti won the bronze medal


China wins gold in 3m springboard synchronized diving

China’s Guo Jingjing and Wu Minxia, won their second consecutive gold medal just now in the the Synchronized Women’s 3m Springboard with a final score of 343.50.
Julia Pakhalina and Anastasia Pozdnyakova from Russia finished second and Ditte Kotzian, Heike Fischer of Germany finished third.
The event was held at the Water Cube stadium.


Katerina Thanou banned from Beijing Olympics

Greek sprinter Katerina Thanou has been banned from competing at the Beijing Olympics by the IOC for her role in the drug-testing scandal at the Athens Games four years ago.
Thanou and fellow Greek sprinter Kostas Kenteris missed doping tests on the eve of the 2004 opening ceremony, claiming they were injured in a motorcycle accident.

Greek sprinter Tassos Gousis tests postive for drugs

Reuters reports that Greek Olympic sprinter Tassos Gousis has tested positive for drugs.
Gousis was planning to compete in the 200 meter sprint at the Beijing Olympics. The test was taken by the Greek anti-doping agency, before he left for Japan for a training session.
