The Iranian men’s wheelchair basketball team has withdrawn from the Beijing Paralympics competition on the first day of quarterfinal competition.
The International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF) and the International Paralympic Committee today announced that Iran have pulled out of competition “due to their dissatisfaction with the draw proposed for the cross-over round and subsequent schedule”.

Iranian weightlifter Hamzeh Mohammadi grabbed the gold medal in the 60-kg category in Beijing’s Paralympics with an effort of 202.5 kg.
Mohammadi’s medal is Iran’s first gold in the 2008 Beijing Paralympics.

Hadi Saei from Iran has won the gold medal in the men’s 80kg men’s taekwondo.
Mauro Sarmiento from Italy won the silver medal. Steven Lopez from the United States won a bronze medal together with Guo Zhu from China.
