Netherlands make 13th appearance in Paralympic Games

The Dutch delegation marched in the opening ceremony of the Beijing Paralympic Games on Saturday night, making their 13th appearance at the world’s premier sporting event for elite disabled athletes.

The Netherlands have defeated the United States 9-8 in the women’s water polo to win the gold medal.
The scores were level at 8-8 when the Netherlands scored with just 26 seconds to go.
Australia defeated Hungary to win the bronze medal.

Dutchman likens winning gold to his battle with cancer

Maarten van der Weijden from the Netherlands said his experience battling cancer helped him won the gold medal in the men’s 10km marathon swim. He was diagnosed with leukaemia in 2001 but has since come back stronger.

Maarten van der Weijden of the Netherlands narrowly won the gold medal in the men’s 10km swimming marathon with a time of 1:51:51.6.
David Davies of Great Britain won the silver medal with a time of 1:51:53.1. Thomas Lurz of Germany won the bronze medal with a time of 1:51:53.6.


Anky van Grunsven wins gold in the dressage individual event

Anky van Grunsven from the Netherlands has won the gold medal in individual dressage.
Isabell Werth from Germany won the silver medal and the bronze was won by Heike Kemmer also from Gemany.


Marianne Vos of the Netherlands wins gold in the women’s points race – cycling

Marianne Vos of the Netherlands has won the gold in the women’s points race at the Beijing Olympics.
The silver medal was won by Cuban Yoanka Gonzalez and the bronze medal went to Leire Olaberria of Spain.

Another gold to Australia in sailing – women’s 470

Australia has added another medal to its count by winning the women’s 470 sailing event. Australia won the same event in the men’s division. The Netherlands won the silver and the bronze medal went to Brazil.
